New Years Eve 2012 Fireworks in Manila, Philippines

Check out the New Years Eve 2012 Fireworks in the wild, wild west (ie. the Philippines). We filmed the action from the rooftop of a 15 story apartment block!

Don’t you just love New Years Eve?

New Year Celebrations 2012 are one of the most exciting days of the year. Everyone, no matter where they are in the world, is in the mood to party. Everyone is preparing to have an awesome time. The festive atmosphere is electrical enough to make little ol’ Grandma start dancing.

Watch the video above for a snapshot of the New Years Eve 2012 fireworks in Manila. You’ll be dazzled, but not by what you would expect.

In Western countries, fireworks are typically outlawed. It’s illegal for the average person to buy fireworks. Instead, governments put on professional fireworks displays for the people.

Here in Manila, there is nothing of the sort. I could be wrong, but I don’t think the Government here does anything official regarding the fireworks.

Instead, everyone, man, woman and child (yes, we’re not joking) buys their own fireworks. It’s one of the outrageous activities in the Philippines. Anyone with a pocket full of change gets their own fireworks. Unfortunately, it’s also anyone with a handgun or automatic weapon celebrating, shooting their guns into the air.

When the time for New Year celebrations 2012 arrived, Manila became the scene of a World War 2 re-enactment.

From the rooftop of an apartment building, we watched the city come to life around us. Everywhere throughout the city was exploding.

New Years Eve 2012 FireworksGreen fireworks. Red fireworks. Love-heart shaped fireworks. Giant white fireworks that lit up the sky. Tiny dots of yellow that disappeared as quickly as they came. Fireworks that made one huge explosion. Fireworks that made of hundreds of tiny explosions.

As you can imagine, it was an absolute spectacle.

With everyone setting off fireworks, the city was alive with explosions. It illustrates the idea that the Philippines is a bit like the Wild, Wild West. In the video, you’ll see smoke down in the streets. While some of it is from the New Years Eve 2012 fireworks, a large amount is from the fires that result from the amateur fireworks. We heard fire trucks and ambulances racing through the city all night.

In case you’re wondering, throughout the New Years Eve 2012 fireworks, over 500 people were injured. So perhaps it’s a good thing that we can’t do the same thing in the West.

As you can see, the Philippines is crazy. That’s why we love it here.
