Discover Scuba Diving – A Mind-Blowing Introduction Into Diving

by Maylen on April 1, 2012

When you come to the Philippines, you have to go diving!

In particular, you should definitely make time to experience the amazing Puerto Galera diving. It’s believed to be some of the best scuba diving in the entire world.

If you have never been scuba diving before, you’ll need to begin by enrolling in a Discover Scuba Diving course. This is the first stop on the way to becoming a qualified scuba diver. Even if you don’t want to become qualified, you’ll need to start here.

First, you’ll watch a video that is produced by PADI, the international diving authority.

Next, you’ll jump in the diving pool with a qualified instructor. The diving pool is a specially-designed pool for people learning how to dive. There is a shallow section and a deep section. The shallow section is for learning about the gear, how to use your regulator and how to breathe underwater for the first time. The deep section is for learning to descend and ascend safely.

For example, on the way down, you need to equalize your air pressure or you’ll get injured on the descent. Likewise, on the way up, you need to keep breathing. Otherwise, the air in your lungs expands and can damage them. Your lungs were not meant to expand very far!

After the pool, you’ll jump onto the diving boat and head off to the dive site of the day. If you’re diving in Puerto Galera, you’ll go to one of the great dive sites in the area.

There will probably be other people on the boat doing either their Discover Scuba Diving or perhaps just a dive. They’ll get into the water first. After that, it’s your turn!

Put your goggles on, inflate your BCD and fall back into the water. Roll over and prepare for the descent. Your instructor will explain what to do next.

You’ll deflate your BCD and allow yourself to sink. Since it’s your first time scuba diving, you’ll go down to around 10 to 12 meters depth. Then, you’ll float and swim along in the current.

Puerto Galera is an amazing place to dive. You’ll see colorful fish and incredible coral. On the ocean floor, there will be a number of sponges that are as big as a car. In some places, you’ll even see eels poking their heads out of the sandy ocean floor.

Rather than attempt to explain this magnificent experience, come and try it yourself!

Here is a picture to whet your appetite:

Another great thing is the Puerto Galera nightlife. Dive during the day and party at night!
